WHERE:  Town Center, Virginia Beach

We’ve had a wonderful turnout the past few years, and know that everyone (humans and dogs) had an AMAZING experience. You won’t want to miss out on it this year!! It’s time again to show off our SEVA GRREAT Goldens at the Light up the Town Parade in Virginia Beach. We’re stepping off promptly at 6:00 PM from a NEW LOCATION: Bank Street, between Independence Blvd and Market Street, and the adjacent parking lot. Because of the new building being constructed at Town Center, the parade route has changed some. Our Goldens and their people should be there NO LATER than 5:15 pm. Parade participants are encouraged to park vehicles not participating in the parade in any of the free parking garages located around Town Center. Our Goldens are always a highlight of the parade. We can’t wait to see you there to spread some Christmas cheer and awareness for SEVA GRREAT. Be sure to check your email and our Facebook page for any last minute updates!!

Meet Lacey

Lacey

Meet 4 year old Lacey! She came to SEVA GRREAT after being left at a veterinarian’s office to be euthanized because her extreme weight made her almost immobile. This pretty plus sized girl weighed in at 139 pounds – about twice her healthy weight. Needless to say, she had trouble getting around without the assistance of one or two people. She had to be lifted with a towel just to stand up and then taking 2 or 3 steps was her limit before needing to rest for about 10 minutes.

Our vets expressed concern that both of her ACLs were possibly torn and put her on pain medication in an effort to help immediately relieve her discomfort. Lacey also suffers from Nephrotic Syndrome, a kidney disorder. Lacey is now on special prescription food, special supplements and blood pressure medication.

Despite all of her complications, this beautiful blonde has been incredibly friendly, loving and thankful during all the daily care she requires. Her spirit and positive attitude never takes a break. This sweet girl unconditionally has a smile and wagging tail for everyone she meets. Her story is improving weekly. In the short 4 months she has been in SEVA GRREAT’s care not only has she lost about 20 pounds, she has become very mobile and even able to play ball again. She recently mastered climbing a ramp that allows her to get in and out of the car with ease. Every new obstacle she conquers just makes her happier and happier.

While weekly swims at the local dog swim club are expensive, they have proven to be the safest and most helpful exercise she can get. In addition to her swims, Lacey also enjoys short walks and fetching a ball.

We know the future holds GRREAT things for this extra special SEVA GRREAT girl. She will continue with her current treatment plan of swimming, walking, medications and special food for the next two months and then her Vets will reevaluate her weight and knees for a possible surgery. Donations will help her keep swimming, eating the right foods, taking her important medications and knee surgery that will allow her to enjoy a full, playful life.
